Hello All! My Name is Austin Nelson and I am from Emory, Texas a small town an hour and a half east of Dallas. I grew up in a family of four with one sibling. Throughout my high school years, I played Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Track. After High School, I ran two years of collegiate track at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. After my Sophomore year, I decided to transfer to Texas Tech to pursue their Physical Therapy Program. Upon arriving in Lubbock I found CFLBK and immediately fell in love. The gym was everything I ever dreamed of and consisted of very hardworking people (and Coaches) that I knew I wanted to surround myself with. I have been here a little over two years now and have been coaching for roughly over a year. I have met so many amazing people and lifelong friends here. I never imagined what I would gain from joining a gym, but it was one of the greatest blessings so far in my life.
My turning point was my transition to college. I did not have many offers going into college but I knew I wanted to continue my athletic career. So after long discussions, I decided to walk onto the Track & Field team at Harding with hopes of obtaining an athletic scholarship. After a long year, I ended up competing very well and placed 3rd in the conference as a freshman. This athletic performance would later lead to me being offered an athletic scholarship. Throughout my time at Harding, I began having disordered eating patterns and body dysmorphia issues that led me down a spiraling path. I hated who I saw in the mirror despite all of the amazing feats I was capable of achieving. These issues eventually led me to leave and put my focus elsewhere with the hope of becoming a healthier individual. This is where I found CFLBK! Crossfit has allowed me to switch that negative mentality of "What I CAN'T do, be, look like, etc" to be happy and thankful for all the amazing feats my body CAN do. No matter where you are in your life Crossfit has the means to improve your quality of life. It worked with me and the vast majority of our members those that are younger and older! Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, you never know the amazing things that will be waiting for you!
My passion and motivation for coaching are the same reason I am pursuing a career in Physical Therapy. At my core, I have a servant's heart. I care about people, their well-being, and their ability to live life to the highest capacity. Becoming a coach allowed me to provide that opportunity to people who exhibit physical shortcomings. Quality of life isn’t an option, it’s independence all individuals deserve to experience. Improving other's quality of life is the essence of all my goals.
